What has
made my time at Loyola a Jesuit experience? This is a hard question for me to
answer. The main reason is because I am just finishing up my second semester
here.
My first
semester didn’t have anything that stuck out as really Jesuit. I took the
religious studies course but we really didn’t focus on the Jesuits at all. The
class mostly just broadly covered a number of religions. We really only spent
like a week on Christianity.
I know you
said not to use your class as an example but it is honestly the only Jesuit
experience I have had so far at Loyola. Before your class I wasn’t familiar at
all with the Jesuits or Ignatius Loyola. I singed up for your class for that
very reason. I really wanted to know about the guy my school is named after but
I have learned so much more than that so far.
I’ve really
learned a lot about LIFE. I feel like there are a ton of life lessons that are
taught in your class. Several times so far this semester I’ve found myself
sitting in my desk and finding current things in my life that relate to what
your talking about. Things like not making big decisions in the heat of the
moment and other ways to think about relationships. I think a lot of this is
because I broke up with my girl friend of 5 years right at the beginning of
this semester. I guess I was spending a lot of time searching for answers and
going back-and-forth on whether I made the right decision or not. I still don’t
know the answer to that question but I do realize that this is part of life and
nothing that I’ve gone through is unique.
I’m getting
a little off topic but I’m trying to show how your class has taught me more
lessons than just Ignatius’ life. Hopefully by next year I have more Jesuit
experiences than just your class. I hope I don’t lose points for not having a
different experience to talk about!!
